On Saturday 25th March 2023 Dexion supported the tree-planting event that was held in Sanpetru, Brasov. The village was a part of a bigger project that "Grow Romania Together" organised across the whole country, inviting volunteers to participate in a tree-planting initiative to help reduce CO2 emissions and encourage cleaner, fresher air within towns, cities, and villages.
The impressive event in Sanpetru saw over 4,800 saplings of various species planted, including black locust, oak, sycamore, and mountain ash, as well as 500 poplars. Locations such as the Town Hall and Maria Nursing Home complex for the elderly were specifically chosen for this project. Not only did it help highlight the beauty within the areas, by capturing the silhouette of the Lempes Hill in the background, but it was also a great way to give back to the community.
In addition, 150 large linden saplings, reaching between 3 and 5 metres tall, were placed alongside streets and roads on the outskirts of the village creating a vital opportunity to introduce cleaner air where motor vehicles pass daily.
Many people got involved with this important tree-planting initiative, including Dexion members and their families. It was fantastic to see everyone, offer up their time and hard work by joining in with the fun to achieve this incredible goal. By taking that small step to create bigger changes for the future, improving the impact on the environment, and building up the sense of community with everyone working together.
The group's efforts were aimed at creating greener, more eco-friendly communities and reducing the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere.
Brian Howson, General Manager of Dexion Romania, commented on this great achievement. "It's inspiring to see such a strong commitment to reforestation efforts in Romania, and we proud to have supported these important initiatives."
The Sanpetru event was just one of many to be organised by "Grow Romania Together", their commitment and efforts made it all possible. Over the course of the past few weekends, a total of 61,200 seedlings were planted throughout the country, with around 3,100 volunteers participating across regions in Romania.
As a result, this has shown a significant increase in the number of trees planted compared to previous years, highlighting the growing interest in reforestation efforts in Romania. Mihai Mihu, a member from "Grow Romania Together" the charity who made all this happen had this to say once the last of the events had taken place:
"The planting campaign was a fantastic example of how individuals and organisations can come together to make a positive impact on the environment. With their efforts, Romania is one step closer to a greener, more sustainable future. Looking forward, with further support from eco-conscious companies such as Dexion, we plan to launch a greening project. We also hope to increase the fund of seedlings for the Autumn edition of the 25 Trees action, with the goal of supporting those who wish to participate."
Thanks again to "Grow Romania Together" for putting these great initiatives in place and thank you to everyone who has helped by taking part. We are proud to have been a part of this amazing project which not only will have a positive and fundamental impact on the environment but will make waves in improving lives across the country.
Look out for future socials detailing our efforts and commitment to improving our local environments with more initiatives like tree-planting.
